The Ultimate Tax Research Course (111186-12)

Description

This course will enhance the CPA’s ability to identify tax issues and to
evaluate the legal authority relevant to researching those issues.
Participants will gain an awareness of issues in federal tax practice
and procedure as well as ethical concerns for tax professionals.

Learning Objectives
  1. To develop and enhance a CPA's skills in identifying tax questions and tax planning opportunities.
  2. To develop and enhance a CPA's ability to identify tax issues and to evaluate legal authority on those issues.
  3. To learn how to prepare a response or formulate a strategy using tax research resources.
Major Topics
  1. Learn how to communicate the results of your tax research to a third party
  2. Learn how to analyze facts, distinguish relevant information from irrelevant, recognize and state the issues, and reduce the rules of law to succinct statements
  3. Gain an understanding of ethical issues in tax planning
  4. Develop:
  5. Reasoning skills through analyzing court decisions
  6. Planning skills through evaluating the tax implications of alternative plans
  7. Synthesizing skills through reconciling and/or distinguishing similar cases
