Senior Accountant, Plano-Coudon Construction

The Senior Accountant role is an opportunity to leverage a strong corporate accounting background in a booming industry, without the yearly toll on work life balance. The position allows for a mix of typical corporate accounting responsibilities and collaboration with our project management team to track and analyze financial performance and profitability. The Senior Accountant is responsible for all aspects of job cost accounting for commercial construction projects, including budgets, contracts, subcontractor and owner invoices, issue resolution, and monthly reporting and analysis.  This role partners with and supports project teams in monitoring the financial performance of our jobs. The Senior Accountant also contributes to the accounting team by performing general accounting functions, such as supporting the yearly audit, tax preparation, year-end close, cash receipts, and maintaining cash position and projections. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain job cost for multiple construction projects from pre-construction to close-out.  Includes monitoring budgets and commitments, processing subcontractor and vendor invoices, preparing drafts of owner invoices, and resolving issues.  
  • Projects may be complex, vary in size/scope/dollar value, or have special requirements.
  • Partner with the project manager and other team members to monitor overall project financial status.  
  • Prepare general conditions cost projections where needed.
  • Prepare for and attend progress meetings with project teams.  
  • Gather work-in-progress (WIP) reports from Project Executives to compile into the master WIP (firm-wide WIP schedule).  Perform analysis to identify errors, inconsistencies, etc. 
  • Prepare monthly financial report with current profitability estimates and identify risks and opportunities.   
  • Support a range of general accounting responsibilities. 
  • Maintain cash position and assists in projection. 
  • Contribute to monthly and year-end close processes; prepare entries, workpapers, financial statements, and conducts analysis.  
  • Support the annual audit and tax preparation. 
  • Provide general accounting support to other business entities including real estate holdings, a 503(c) charity, etc. 
  • Continually look to identify and implement process improvements to gain efficiency and adapt to external or internal changes.  
  • Effectively leverage technology to advance business needs.  

Essential Skills and Experience: 

  • BS Degree in Accounting 
  • 5+ years of accounting experience; public accounting experience strongly preferred
  • A/E/C industry experience required 
  • Familiarity with Sage CRE 300/Timberline, Timberscan, and Procore are a plus 
  • Expert level Excel skills required
  • Highly accountable 
  • Strong attention to detail
  • High integrity; trustworthy
  • Holds self to a high standard of excellence 
  • Interested in continually learning and developing skills
  • Willing to visit jobsites and educate themselves on the industry

Summary: The Division of Investment Management (IM) works to support the SEC in its mission to protect investors, maintain fair, orderly, and efficient markets, and facilitate capital formation. IM regulates investment companies, variable insurance products, and federally registered investment advisers.

Typical duties include:

  • Examines, analyzes, and evaluates financial statements, disclosure, and other financial information included in filings made by registered investment companies (RICs) and business development companies (BDCs).
  • Performs research, data analysis, or targeted reviews of financial statements relevant to current initiatives and market events, trends, or conditions utilizing monitoring and data analysis tools to identify financial reporting issues, valuation or other measurement outliers, potential disclosure deficiencies, or other key metrics for evaluation of disclosure compliance by RICs and BDCs. 
  • Participates in reviewing new registration statements for financial reporting and disclosure compliance, including application of GAAP, particularly with emerging asset classes or unique strategies that may have complex accounting concepts.
  • Contributes to external discussions with registrants, their counsel, accountants, independent auditors, and other experts representing registrants with respect to accounting, auditing, or financial reporting matters raised in review of RIC and BDC filings.
