The Positivity Link 3: The Theory of Positivity “The Pleasant Life” (17W0002-14)

Description

Positive emotion is one of the five essential life domains of our
well-being. Critical to our immune system, and even more importantly to
how our brain functions, this webcast will provide fresh insight into
the powerhouse of positive emotion and what it adds to our well-being.
Fueled by research from Ed Diener, Barbara Fredrickson, and Rick Hanson,
this program will bring a fuller understanding of what it means to “be
happy,” how to extend and savor positive emotion, and why being
intentional about positive emotion makes for a big difference in your
quality of life.

Learning Objectives
  1. Understand why well-being is more important to our ability to thrive than “being happy”
  2. Learn defining characteristics of positive emotion, including happiness
  3. Understand the benefits of positive emotion to our psychological, emotional, and physical health
  4. Hear about Barbara Fredrickson’s “Broaden and Build” theory
  5. Discover three critical strategies to maximizing the benefits of positive emotion
Major Topics

  3. An understanding of the “lizard brain” and how it undermines our best efforts.
  4. An exploration of the Theory of Positivity as introduced by Barbara Fredrickson and key findings regarding positive emotion from Ed Diener and Rick Hanson.
