Late Stage College Planning (PFP Study Group)

Description

This program focuses on late stage planning for minimizing the cost of college.  The primary target group for this program will be practitioners advising middle and upper middle income parents of high school students potentially applying for college financial aid.

Note:  this program focuses on late stage planning and, therefore, does not address the issue of saving for college.

Learning Objectives
  1. Determining a family’s expected financial contribution.
  2. Review of the primary financial aid formulas: Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the College Scholarship Service Profile (CSS).
  3. Identification of how different types of assets and income are “counted” for each of the financial aid forms
  4. Identifying the relative generosity of prospective colleges with respect to their need-based and merit-based aid programs.
  5. Structuring grandparent assistance to minimize potential reductions in financial aid.
