The colloquium will be chaired by noted attorney, Max Krotman, J.D.,
facilitator of hundreds of such mergers and acquisitions, and author of
the definitive book and numerous articles in the field. Mr. Krotman is
also an entertaining speaker whose sole concern is the benefit of his
clients.
The colloquium will feature 2-3 prominent Managing Partners of large and
small local area firms who have personally experienced these
transactions from the perspective of
(a) the merging firm which obtains a payout on retirement, plus the
opportunity to continue working;
(b) the continuing firm in a merger or buyout which continues the
service to the clients and makes the retirement payments to the retiring
professional; and
(c) the merged firm where all the mergers continue their growth and
practice together as a new team.
Discussion topics will be:
1. How is the proper practice or merger partner is identified?
2. How is the practice integrated with the existing practice?
3. How is continuing short term compensation measured prior to or after
retirement?
4. How is the retirement payout computed?
