AACC: Designing Retirement Accounts and Coordinating Retirement Benefits with Estate Plan; Tax Issues in Divorce

Seminar will cover the following:

1. Retirement plan design and some common areas where plans can make minor changes to make big changes in the effectiveness of their plan.

2. For many of our clients, a significant part of their wealth is contained within their retirement accounts. Therefore, incorporating these accounts into the estate plan is crucial. This segment of the program will explore the practical ways to coordinate clients’ retirement assets with their estate plan, including when and how to direct the retirement assets into trust for spouse and children, an explanation of what is a Trusteed IRA, how an IRA can be distributed out of a trust, how to benefit charities and traps to avoid in planning.

3. A Family Lawyer’s Approach to Common Tax Issues in Divorce: Filing Joint or Separate; Deductibility of Support Payments and Mortgage; The Dependency Exemption Post-Reichert; and Tax Implications of Property Distribution.

  1. Participants will gain an understanding of the design strategies for retirement benefits and how to coordinate retirement benefits with estate plans. They will also gain an understanding of common tax issues in divorce.
