2. Update on the November 2020 Revised Uniform Guidance

You likely know that the Uniform Guidance was updated in late 2020, but what were the subtle and not-so-subtle changes?
The revision reflects a foundational shift to focus on enhanced, results-oriented accountability for grants and cooperative agreements based on performance. As a part of the Presidential management agenda, the revision will improve stewardship and ensure the American people receive value for Federal funds spent on various grant programs.

This session will include an overview of GASB standards that are effective for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2022, with an enhanced focus on the accounting and reporting requirements for GASB 96 (Subscription Based Information Technology Arrangements).  Additionally, the session will include a high level overview of standards that are issued but not yet effective and other GASB activities.

7. The Importance of Federal Grant Compliance Program

Federal grant noncompliance can be a serious issue that can result anywhere from audit findings to having to return funds. Knowing and understanding the compliance requirements helps maximize the impact of every dollar you receive.  In this session, we will discuss ways that you can assess whether your entity is properly meeting its federal grant compliance requirements.    We will cover how to identify what compliance requirements are applicable to your grants, more common compliance requirement, what policies and procedures need to be in place, as well as best practices that can be used to ensure proper compliance.

8. Ethics with a Dash of Courage

Getting ethics right is a big deal, and ethics often requires courage. An organization’s ethics is directly connected to its reputation in the community, and solid ethical principles are crucial for the long-term success of any organization. This facilitated discussion goes beyond a lecture on ethical principles – it is a series of executive level case studies that offer participants “real time” practice in resolving dilemmas, with participants sharpening their critical thinking skills.

 

9. Not for Profit Revenue Recognition

The accounting for not-for profit revenue recognition can be complex. Have I received a contribution or an exchange transaction? I believe I received a contribution, but is it conditional or unconditional? When do I record it and how? We’ll walk through the differences between contributions vs. exchange transactions. Take a deeper dive into donor-imposed conditions and restrictions, and how to identify them. We’ll also go over the 5 steps under ASC 606 applicable for exchange transitions.  After attending this session you will have a better understanding of these accounting standards.

10. How to Build an Indirect for Nonprofits Under the Uniform Guidance

This session will show you how to build an indirect rate using one of the most widely used indirect cost rate proposal templates for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).can be complex.
