Damages experts play an important role in commercial litigation matters, including claims for lost profits, and provide valuable skills, expertise and experience to attorneys. An expert’s report can be a foundation for the client’s damages case and an important factor in the outcome of the litigation. An effective written expert report will augment the attorney’s legal arguments about whether the plaintiff suffered damages and will be an important basis for educating the trier of fact about the reasons for either accepting or rejecting the plaintiff’s lost profits claim. 07 - Cannabis Industry Analysis and Appraisals: Lessons Learned from Colorado

This session will provide an overview of the cannabis industry, including landmark case law, recent legislative activities, and the evolution of the industry as more state and local jurisdictions implement some level of licensed cannabis business activity.   Valuation of cannabis dispensaries, cultivation operations and related license rights will be addressed, focusing on the nuances and risk assessment required.  The discussion leader will also touch on the lessons learned from over 10 years of working with cannabis businesses ranging from appraisal and litigation matters to income tax compliance and internal control issues.
