What is your edge? How do you create it and sustain it in your organization?
in the wake of the Great Recession of 2008 (2009 & 2010) and the current fragile and uncertain environment, everyone is trying to see through the fog to the future. Organizations and individuals are all looking for their edge, their competitive edge. earlier this year I got to share my thoughts at the Verasage Summit in what Ron and crew called “DET” talks (these are all worth watching!) in the spirit of the inspirational Ted talks.
I talk about engaging your people to tap their energy, that discretionary effort that makes the great organizations great. I also talk about what we have learned from working with young professionals in Maryland and nationally and how organizations can tap this great reservoir of knowledge and enthusiasm (see my last post – Are you part of the movement and just read the comments to hear the voices of these young professionals).
Your organization's EDGE is in re-engaging people in your purpose, your Why and to develop a positive, winning culture that helps people and the organization to flourish.
Watch this clip and let me know what you think…
it is hard to plan for the long term future when you don’t know what is going to happen five minutes from now. Today, a competitive edge is thin and temporary; the edge quickly becomes the margin. The ability to define the edge, and the ultimate competitive advantage, is found in the smarts, heart and ingenuity of your people – that's your powerhouse. Tap that, train it, focus it and mobilize it; now you've engaged a network and inspired a sustainable shift.
