I was lurking on Facebook the other day when I came across the following post from CPA and social media pal Shayna Chapman:
“I need a playlist for cranking out some tax returns today. I’m open to suggestions / playlists on Spotify, etc. #IWannaRock”
I can completely relate, for I, too, wanna rock.
But Shayna’s post got me thinking: What’s the perfect playlist for tax season?
A search on Spotify reveals two playlists titled “Tax Season 2014,” one by Ashley Stern and another by Phil Flowers. A quick look at those playlists reveals our problem, though: If you like Ashley’s list, you’ll probably hate Phil’s list. There is no perfect playlist, because everyone’s taste in tax season music differs (although Ashley and Phil both seem to have a soft spot for Imagine Dragons).
So maybe a better question is this: What’s the perfect playlist of songs about tax season?
Partly because I felt I owed it to all of you music-loving CPAs out there but mostly because I was bored, I started building one.
For all of you Spotify members, it’s called “Taxman,” and it’s filled with songs about paying taxes and earning money. Trust me, it’s not as boring as it sounds. If you’re on Spotify, check it out here:
I’ll be the first to admit it’s far from perfect or complete, so here’s what I want you to do:
- If you’re on Spotify or feel like joining, take a listen, then let me know what’s missing.
- If you’re not on Spotify, leave a comment below with songs you think should be included.
- Cut me some slack. Believe me, I would have much preferred to include The Beatles’ version of “Taxman,” but Spotify doesn’t offer any of their music yet. You’ll have to make do with Stevie Ray Vaughan.
If you need a tax season diversion, help me build the perfect tax season playlist.
After all, no one should have to listen to crappy music while they file returns.
