New MACPA.org Launching 4/1! Stay tuned for a brand new online experience.

UPDATE, Nov. 1: Here’s some good news: Don Meyer, director of communications and marketing for the New Jersey Society, reports that the NJSCPA’s website and e-mail are back up and running, and that further updates will be posted to the society’s home page.

UPDATE, Oct. 31: Everything you are about the read about the New Jersey Society of CPAs also applies to the New York State Society of CPAs as well. According to a notice posted online by the Ohio Society of CPAs, the NYSSCPA “will remain closed until further notice due to a power outage to our building at 3 Park Avenue in Manhattan, caused by Hurricane Sandy. Our phone lines and email are inaccessible, and our website cannot be accessed or updated. Please continue to check this page for the status of office operations.”

A list of canceled NYSSCPA programs can be found here, and further updates are available on the society’s Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter pages.

=======

Mixed emotions rule the day after a week like this. Those of us who missed the worst of Hurricane Sandy’s wrath are counting our blessings — and feeling awfully helpless at the same time as less fortunate friends struggle to put the pieces back to together.

Here, though, is one small thing we can do to help.

Our friends at the New Jersey Society of CPAs lost power when Sandy blew through their part of the world. That means they lost most of their ability to communicate with members who needed help and information.

So we’re trying to help them spread as much information to impacted CPAs as possible, not only through this blog, but through Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+, and our other social media channels as well.

The Ohio Society of CPAs has posted a storm-related message from NJSCPA CEO Ralph Albert Thomas on its website. That same message appears on the NJSCPA’s home page, but the New Jersey Society is currently limited in its ability to post further updates.

Here is the NJSCPA’s message in its entirety:

Hurricane Sandy has caused unprecedented damage in New Jersey. Our thoughts are with our 15,000 members across the state as many of them begin the long process of clean up and recovery.

While work matters are secondary to more important things like family and friends, we want you to know that the NJSCPA is striving to get our programs and services up and running. Here is the latest information:

Power is out at the NJSCPA office in Roseland. Our e-mail and website are down and the office itself is inaccessible. For the time being, we will be posting updates here until our regular website is back up and running. The login functionality on Connect is currently unavailable.

We are evaluating whether to cancel CPE programming the remainder of the week. As of now, the following events are cancelled:

November 1:

  • Women’s Conference
  • Middlesex/Somerset Chapter: Alternative Sources of Income in a Low Interest Rate Environment
  • Seminar: Determining How Much Money You Need to Retire

November 2:

  • Seminar: Social Security, Medicare, and Prescription Drug Retirement Benefits

Please check back here periodically for more information.

We have and will continue to post updates on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. Please share those updates with your friends and followers.

It’s unclear at this time how long it will take to get our lives back to normal. We will do our best to keep you informed about professional news and the status of CPE programs as the days progress. Be sure to check this information page and our social media pages for updates.

All of us at the NJSCPA wish safe days ahead for you, your family and staff.

If you know any CPAs in the New Jersey or New York areas who need updates on storm-related professional information, please pass along any of the following links:
