Memorial Day.

It’s our traditional beginning of summer — barbecues, night fires, friends and family in the back yard. This year, as our nation begins reopening after more than a year under COVID lockdowns, it takes on a whole new meaning — a renewed emphasis on our freedoms, our values, and especially, our heroes.

Those heroes, past and present, are the reasons why we celebrate Memorial Day.

The MACPA offices will be closed on Monday, May 31, in observance of the holiday. We encourage you — we plead with you — to take some time during your holiday to remember those who have given their lives so that we can celebrate the day. War heroes, first responders, health care professionals, law enforcement officers — their service and sacrifice is what we celebrate and honor today. Honor them.

Enjoy the holiday, and remember why we observe it.
