MACPA asked members of the House Economic Matters Committee to give HB 873 an unfavorable report today. The proposed changes to the Maryland Tax Preparer legislation (enacted in 2008) are premature since the State Board of Tax Preparers has not even been formed. The bill also appears to be laying the ground work for H&R Block and others to self-certify tax preparers with their own testing and training – a provision with which we are in total opposition.
Representatives of the MD CASH campaign and the Maryland Society of Accountants joined us in opposing this bill. It has not bee nvoted on from committee yet.
