CPAs are going Hollywood — and in a really big way.
The big-budget thriller “The Accountant” opens this week with a star-studded cast that includes Ben Affleck, Anna Kendrick, J.K. Simmons, Jeffrey Tambor, and John Lithgow.
The plot, lifted straight from the movie’s official website, goes like this:
“Christian Wolff (Affleck) is a math savant with more affinity for numbers than people. Behind the cover of a small-town CPA office, he works as a freelance accountant for some of the world’s most dangerous criminal organizations. With the Treasury Department’s Crime Enforcement Division, run by Ray King (Simmons), starting to close in, Christian takes on a legitimate client: a state-of-the-art robotics company where an accounting clerk (Kendrick) has discovered a discrepancy involving millions of dollars. But as Christian uncoooks the books and gets closer to the truth, it is the body count that starts to rise.”
It’s the Hollywood coming-out party CPAs have been waiting for. Let’s hope it lives up to the hype.

And if you can’t make it to the theater this weekend, here’s an alternative trailer in which Affleck and “Tonight Show” host Jimmy Fallon read scenes written by elementary school kids. I think I’ll like this version better:
