Newly Licensed Maryland CPAs take an oath to Protect the Public

Newly Licensed Maryland CPAs take an oath to Protect the Public administered by Secretary of the Maryland Department of Labor, Tiffany Robinson

Earlier this month, I was fortunate to watch 75 new CPAs take an oath to protect the public and their clients as part of the annual CPA Swearing-In Ceremony.

Part of what makes the Swearing-In Ceremony so special is the sense of community and purpose in the room. It’s a reminder that no matter where we are in our professional journey, as CPAs and accounting professionals, we share a connection and commitment to something greater than the sum of our day-to-day work.

Maryland’s Secretary of the Department of Labor, Tiffany Robinson made this point as she administered the oath for CPAs to uphold the honor and dignity of our profession as licensed Certified Public Accountants.

She reminded us all that our Profession is critical to the success of the Maryland economy and businesses. She also emphasized the role of CPAs in protecting the public interest which is what distinguishes us as THE most trusted advisors in business.

This Thanksgiving, I’m thankful that I get to be part of our community with you – the members of MACPA – and help each other connect and achieve more each year. Thank you for all that you do for and with MACPA, for doing the right thing, and for making our association the vibrant, forward-thinking community that it is.

We are especially thankful for the men and women in our armed forces protecting us abroad right now, away from their families and the comforts of home. We are grateful for their sacrifices.

Have a safe and happy holiday!

-Tom Hood, CEO, and the MACPA Team
