There aren’t many non-negotiable calls to action out there, but here’s one of them:

When the most powerful storm in 100 years rolls into town, you lock up the office, head on home, and batten down the hatches.

The AICPA took that lesson to heart when it postponed its first-ever cloud user conference, The Digital CPA, until Dec. 5-7.

The conference was slated to take place Oct. 28-30, but that’s right about the time that Hurricane Sandy was supposed to meet up with an early nor’easter and bring windy, wet calamity to the mid-Atlantic region. So in the interest of safety, the Institute decided to move the event to December at the Gaylord National Hotel in Washington, D.C.

“With so much enthusiasm surrounding this event, this was obviously a difficult decision,” the AICPA stated on the conference’s website. “However, the safety of our attendees and of all those connected to this event are of paramount importance to us. We expect to come back strong — and safe — at the same venue in December.”

Here are a few more details, courtesy of the AICPA.

“All conference registrations will automatically transfer to the new dates. For all attendees with reservations at the Gaylord, your reservations will automatically transfer to the new dates. Additionally, AICPA Travel has advised us that it is likely the airlines will institute a no-fee policy for cancellations / changes … consistent with the declared states of emergency that have been issued for Maryland and Virginia.”

The MACPA is a strategic partner of the event, and we applaud the decision to postpone the event. To those who had planned to join us there, we offer the following advice:

Stay home, stay safe, and meet us in D.C. in December instead.
