New MACPA.org Launching 4/1! Stay tuned for a brand new online experience.

The MACPA Spring Town Hall and Annual Meeting on June 7 held an engaged crowd, in person and via webcast. Tom Hood, the MACPA’s executive director and CEO, presided over the important half-day meeting.

Current Chair Kenneth Kelly, CPA, CGMA, covered several key topics from the past year and also welcomed Samantha Bowling, CPA, CGMA as the association’s new chair for her 2018-19 tenure that begins July 1. The mantle has now been passed from one dedicated and talented professional to another. “We seem to be getting the right chair at the right time,” Hood said, “and that’s happened over and over and over again.”

Taking a stroll down Memory Lane was accomplished with an informative and compelling year-in-review video that seamlessly transitioned to the new year ahead.

Ready for that year ahead, Bowling remarked, “I am excited to lead Maryland CPAs during this innovation revolution. We have the right leadership within the Board of Directors and Officers, and staff at the MACPA, to accomplish this. Technology can make everything and anything possible, we just have to dream it. Tom Hood and the leadership before me have positioned us with the right thought leaders to prepare us for the transformation to come.”

In addition to the Board of Directors’ duties during the latter half of the meeting, numerous essential topics and issues were explored and discussed. One line that was central to the discussions of today’s CPA world: “Change will never be slower than it is today. Adapt and thrive.”

Some of the key presentation and discussion points:

  • Why do you love being a CPA?
  • The accounting ecosystem
  • CPA license mobility
  • The Fourth Industrial Revolution: artificial intelligence, Big Data, cloud computing, blockchain
  • Accounting infrastructure
  • Tax Cuts and Jobs Act
  • Legislative updates
  • CPA Day
