Sometimes wisdom can come from unexpected places. This one comes from a 20-something artist working hard to make it in Austin’s music scene — Kat Edmonson.

Like all her cohorts in the millennial generation, she has a MySpace page with more information. I saw Kat perform while at a meeting in Austin, and she is a very talented artist that does old jazz classics with a voice that is truly amazing. She took time out for a photo when we saw her at Eddie V’s in Austin. (Kat is second from the left, followed by John and Gabriella Toman, and Clarke Price). You can get her song on iTunes. I have to give a shout out to my good friend and colleague, Brent Johnson at the Florida Institute of CPAs, for finding Kat and recommending her.

Dsc06213_2Speaking of millennials, you can learn like a millennial this afternoon in Second Life as we bring in a panel live from San Francisco to cover “Hot Topics in Financial Reporting.” The SF Bay Chapter of FEI and the San Francisco FENG are hosting the event, which will be broadcast live on CPA Island in Second Life from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. ET. Details and registration information (it is free) are available at www.cpaisland.com
