Harrison |
Japan, South Korea, Europe, South America – the world is Mike Harrison’s office.
“We went to the Brazilian rainforest one time to work with a company that was literally situated on the Amazon River,” he said. “It was pretty rough. I had to take some pictures to show my wife that I wasn’t just out there having a good old time the whole trip.”
Harrison is a CPA with the U.S. Department of Commerce’s International Trade Administration. His job: to help administer the United States’ anti-dumping law. When a country sells goods inside the United States for less than what those goods sell for in their home country, that’s called “dumping.” The practice can create market distortions and is subject to tariffs.
It’s not a run-of-the-mill job for a CPA, and Harrison loves every minute of it. It also has demonstrated the power of the CPA brand. “There seems to be an instant degree of respect when (people in other countries) find out they’re dealing with a CPA,” he said.
In a recent interview with the MACPA and the AICPA, Harrison answered questions about his job, his profession, and his inspirations and aspirations. Read his story here.
