We recently had an opportunity to catch up with one of the world’s leading futurists on global trends and innovation — Dan Burrus. Dan is no stranger to CPA Success; Bill interviewed him back in 2012 at the CCH User Conference as part of his post, Don’t Just Keep Up With Change, Blow It Away.

The thing about leading business thinkers like Dan is they can make you think, which he did.

Dan asked us a powerful question that I want to share with you.

He asked us if we were thinking big enough?

That’s right, big enough.

Then he said something I found to be one of those blinding flashes of the obvious. He said there is always a “bigger big,” and asked if we are thinking about that.

A bigger big.

He’s right. There is always a “bigger big,” and if we push ourselves to search for it, we may find it.

I think Dan sums it up nicely in his LinkedIn influencer post, If I Were 22: However ‘Big’ You’re Thinking Right Now, It’s Probably Too Small:

“So whatever big thing you’re thinking about doing, think bigger! Ask yourself, ‘What is even bigger than what I’m thinking, because that’s what I really want to do?’ That’s how you raise the bar far higher on yourself. There is always a bigger big. If you can’t imagine it, you will never achieve it. … This is an exciting time in your life, because you really can shape your future. By thinking bigger, choosing to be extraordinary, leveraging your talents by elevating your unique gift, and committing to learning new things every year, you will have the keys to creating a very successful life — one filled with amazing opportunities and unforgettable memories that are worthy of a life well lived.”

Starting today, I want you to ask yourself every day, “Am I thinking big enough?” And just when you think you are there, ask yourself, “What is my bigger big?”

And thanks, Dan, for the inspiration!
