Happy-valentines Did you know there is a music video about an auditor falling in love?

Produced in the virtual world of Second Life and made through connections that came from social media blogging platforms and Twitter?

“If I Were an Auditor” was released last Valentine's Day, and we thought it would fun to revisit it a year later.

The concept came from our friend and chief blogger over at Financial Executives International (FEI), Edith Orenstein. The video was done in collaboration with the Singing CPA, Steve Zelin. (Check him out on iTunes). The video was produced by the Maryland Association of CPAs on CPA Island in Second Life and featured a who's who in the accounting world of bloggers. (See the liner notes and list of particpants on Edith's post here.)

“If I Were an Auditor” is sung to the tune of Bobby Darin's romantic 1966 hit “If I Were a Carpenter” and was one of the top 10 posts at the FEI's blog in 2010. It has received over 15,000 page views in the three major blogs that featured it.

Check out the “cast” that included some of the top A-list bloggers in the accounting and finance areas at this link. The MACPA-er who played the bride is actually going to be a bride in the next few months. (Congrats, Dee!)

Most of these relationships started in social media and have grown to become much more than casual, virtual relationships which is the point. Social Media is not about the technology, but about the relationships!

Thanks to all of our friends who made this video possible and whose relationships we value.

And to all of you auditors, tax pros, CFOs and CPAs: Happy Valentine's Day!

The MACPA has been focusing on the power of social media to enhance learning and will be covering this subject at some upcoming national meetings.

Catch Bill Sheridan speaking on Virtual Training: Using Avatars in Learning at the NASBA CPE Conference in San Diego on March 9. Tom Hood will follow him with a session on the State of Social and Informal Learning. Bill will be moderating a panel on social media at the Northeast CPE Conference later this month as well.
