“The future is like a corridor into which we can see only by the light coming from behind.” – Edward Weyer Jr.
I thought you would enjoy this informative look back at the last decade, thanks to John Frenaye, editor at Eye on Annapolis. I found myself remembering a lot of major things that I had not really thought about. Great video, but I recommend some singing lessons for the voice-over. 🙂
A new decade is a great opportunity to look back on your organization, career and life to reflect and even “map” your history.
Take a half hour and a blank sheet of paper. Create a basic timeline and start filling in your history map. Try these questions to get you started:
- What were some of my major accomplishments?
- How have I changed? What new skills have I gained?
- What events have been significant over my history? When and why?
- What people have been significant over my history? When and why?
- How has my job/role changed in the last __ years?
After you take this step, you are ready to think about your future and make a vision for yourself and your five actions steps to get there.
You didn't know I was going to make you work, did you?
