Here’s a first: I checked into the Sheraton Baltimore North in Towson, Md., recently, and was given the option of declining all room housekeeping services. I would make my own bed, hang up and reuse my towels, and put up with actual trash in my trashcan. In return, I would get either (a) $5 per day toward room service or other incidental charges, or (b) a comparable number of points to my Starwood Preferred Guest account.
I happily said “Yes,” because, well, why the heck not? I make my bed and reuse my towels at home. Why not do the same on the road and help the Sheraton get greener by using less water and energy? I win, the Sheraton wins, the Earth wins. Hat trick!
If you’ve traveled recently, chances are you’ve seen a sign like this in your hotel room:
But why do it one towel at a time when you can go all in? Use the same towels, sleep on the same sheets, clean up after yourself each and every day … and make the world a better place at the same time.
Here’s my point: If you want to make big changes, why not go all in?
This goes way beyond the environment, friends. This applies to anything we want to do differently.
If you can do a little, chances are you can do a little more. If you can make a difference, chances are you can make an even bigger difference.
Do it.
